Is it possible to do a SUM/GROUPBY type query on a table through the REST API?

That is a shame, any idea if it is in the plans ?
Could you let us know some use case scenario for this type of REST API? It would help our team understand evaluate if this is a good addition to our API.
I might want to retrieve the total Amount Due by Status from Sales Orders in your Sales Orders template.
