Rename uploaded file

Is it possible, when you upload a file, to be renamed after content in other fields…example:

I upload the scan of a file I have made for a person, XY, on 5th march 2021,can the file be renamed: XY 05.03.2021?

Hi, currently it’s not supported because of the data structure restriction. We will discuss if we can make it in the future.

Thanks for your comment! As of now, we still do not support renaming uploaded files based on a selected field value. I’ve shared your feedback with our development team.

When deciding what to build next, we consider a combination of factors—including overall market demand, technical feasibility, and alignment with our current product strategy. These priorities can shift over time, so while we can’t make any promises, your input definitely helps inform our roadmap.

You had previously requested the ability to automatically rename uploaded files based on a specific field value. We’re happy to let you know that a newly released feature — Applying a field value as the filename when downloading uploaded files or image fields — can serve as a workaround to achieve a similar result.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Configure the download filename to be named after a designated field value. For more information, click here and refer to the Field for Download File Name section.
  2. Download the files from Ragic — they will be automatically named according to the specified field value.
  3. Use Ragic’s Mass File Upload feature to batch re-upload the renamed files back to the corresponding field.

While this does require a manual download-and-re-upload process, it allows you to achieve your original goal in the meantime. We hope this helps!
