Instructions for Action Buttons!

Hey,

This would be good to have! :face_vomiting:

Keep well,

Kane

Hi,

Would you mind describing what kind of instructions you would like to have on your action buttons? It would be great if you could provide some examples too.

Sure,

I know that at this time we can include a message or instructions in the “confirm before execution” feature when setting up an Action Button in Ragic. And this is similar!

However, if we do not wish to include this additional step, then having separate instructions would be useful.

The inclusion of instructions as suggested, would be virtually the same as with any regular field instructions, as it is at this time.

Basically, you enter the instructions in the space provided in the left sidebar settings panel, and it appears as a question mark on the Action Button, instead of on the field description, as with the regular field instructions.

Best wishes!

Hi,

Would you mind providing some examples of the following so we can better understand how this feature request works?

  1. Buttons that need instructions.
  2. The instructions for the respective buttons.

Sure mate,

I am sure I can use this feature in a number of cases! For instance, I have a Property Unit sheet with an Advertisements sub table within the advertising section on the form pages. Now to make entries into said sub table, it requires the use of an action button (as read only sub table setting is applied). The button I have named it “New Ad”. And I may also add another action button in the sub table parent sheet, this time; called, “Archive”. And I want to include instructions as follows…

  1. For the “New Ad” action button - Please be sure that this property is presently listed before including any new property advertisements here! Thank you in advance!
  2. For the “Archive Ad” action button - This action cannot be reverted without a system administrator privilege!

I know that these two instructions, in particular may be able to be included,… if I use the following two options together in the action button settings. i.e. “confirm before execution”, and “custom confirm message”.

That will surely do the job and get the message across!

However, as the “confirm before execution” option cannot be “disabled” by the user at this time, as not yet supported", it may then be a more suitable option to instead prefer to enter such information into said “instructions” instead! By that I mean that, that having ability to implore the “instructions” method as well, it could save a would-be database-user having to “confirm” each time the action button is used. And if used often, this may consequently be considered tedious, at times, by some!

All is well!

Ok I have some more examples here… ones where it is not so attractive an option to include the information into the conform before execution custom message. If fact it may be downright unsuitable and may even look a bit ridiculous! lol Ok, enough of that!

In my Listings sheet, I want to add “instructions” to the following two existing action buttons (as I said the confirm before execution custom message is not suitable in this case).

  1. UNLIST PROPERTY - The date will automatically be recorded, however make sure to lock the record once unlisted.
  2. RENTED - A new Tenancy Record will be created, and the property will also be unlisted!

Thanks for taking all of this into consideration!

One last thing to consider here though Fabio (as you were the last responder), and I believe I may have mentioned this before somewhere, but anyway…

The name to be different from instructions, maybe it should say instructions/details or instructions/additional information…

But yet again anyway. I just don’t want to be the one being accused of being in concise. As it appears to be more of a case of addition information, I am looking to have included here…

I will see if I come up with any other examples!

Thanks,

Kane

Hi,

To get certain instructions, warnings, or messages across when users execute an action button, I think the “Confirm before execution” should be perfect since you will be able to display custom messages when the button is clicked. The only disadvantage is that we do not support the option to not display this message again.
If you think the “confirm before execution” has other disadvantages for your use case, could you please provide some visual examples (images, video recordings, etc.) for me to refer to first?
