Fingerprint Scanner with Ragic as Database

Because why not?

My company had an attendance system that’s a bit outdated, you know, the punch clock thing in 90s movies. I’d rather have an automated one that sends data back and forth between the scanner and Ragic. It sounds pretty convenient.

Enter the ZKTeco ZK4500 scanner, which is actually just one third the price of an average punch clock machine on the market here in Thailand. It’s pretty much a bare-bones scanner, capable only of reading and temporarily storing fingerprints (and flashing two LEDs ), but that’s why it’s ideal for this project.

I developed a Python standalone app to connect to the scanner, have it do its thing, and send the detected fingerprints to Ragic. This can be processed on Ragic to record employee attendance. Honestly, the company’s interest is secondary to my sense of accomplishment.

Here’s a screenshot. My fingerprint is obscured for obvious reasons.
